In an appearance on ESPN Radio's the Mike And Mike Show this morning, Stephen Strasburg's agent Scott Boras talked to the hosts about how the Washington Nationals are handling his client this season and got into the innings limit discussion that is driving page views up around the internet as every person who's ever seen or played a game has shared their plan for keeping Strasburg on the mound down the stretch. In summing up his own thoughts at the end of the interview, the super agent said he's talked to the Nationals and has been aware of their plans throughout the process, and he said he understands what a difficult decision this is for everyone involved. "The reputation of an organization and a general manager is at hand here," Boras said, "These men have careers. They want players to know that they care and they monitor things. And I think that in Mike Rizzo's case he said, 'I'm going to go with the forefront,' he looked at all the information, we don't make these decisions, we're not the employer, we're not the ones that do this. But certainly [the Nationals] sat down and all we asked was that they look at expert medical opinion." Boras added that, "Stephen wants to pitch, of course," but he and the Nationals are following the advice of their doctors. "He puts his [career] in the [hands] of a doctor," Boras said, "A doctor that has saved his career. He must follow his advice. He knows the protocols. He knows what the doctors say and obviously when you're looking into this they've done the research and Stephen, like general managers, like attorneys for players, we're not doctors. We have to follow medical advice. And the question always is, how can you justify if anything were ever to happen to this player if you went against expert medical advice?" Good question.
