Miami Marlins' Josh Johnson Dominates Washington Nationals In 5-2 Win. Doubleheader Split.

' Game One Recap: Washington Nationals' Adam LaRoche And Middle Of The Order Thunder Too Much For Miami Marlins In Game One. 7-4 Nats.

' Gio + Lombo = 1-0: Jose Reyes bunted his way on with two down, but he was forced out at second on a Carlos Lee grounder. The second game of tonight's doubleheader started with Washington Nationals' lefty Gio Gonzalez throwing a scoreless 11-pitch top of the first. Nats' second baseman Steve Lombardozzi jumped all over a 1-0 fastball from the Miami Marlins' Josh Johnson and sent a line drive to center that outfielder Gorkys Hernandez dove for and missed. Leadoff triple in the Nationals' first. No.2 on the year for Lombo. Johnson buried a two-strike slider inside to get Bryce Harper chasing for out no.1 of the Nats' first. A fly ball to right off Ryan Zimmerman's bat was deep enough to bring Lombardozzi in from third, however, and make it a 1-0 game after one in Nats Park.

' Graceful, Effortless: Gio Gonzalez struck the first two batters of the second out, getting Greg Dobbs swinging with a 94 mph fastball and Austin Kearns reaching for a 1-2 curve. Gorkys Hernandez tried to bunt his way on with two down, but Gonzalez fielded it quickly and threw to first, where Adam LaRoche managed to catch a ball that went through the runner as the first baseman stepped across the basepath to catch the ball in foul territory off first with his foot still attached to the bag. Graceful, effortless play by LaRoche. Three quick outs and a nine-pitch second by Gio. Josh Johnson needed just six pitches to retire the Nationals in order and get through the bottom of the frame. 1-0 Nationals after two.

' Gio vs J.J.: Gio Gonzalez got a called strike three with a 95 mph full-count fastball inside to Marlins' backstop John Buck for out no.1 of the 3rd and K no.3 of the game. A 1-2 fastball up high inside got the opposing pitcher swinging for nos. 2 and 4. A groundout to third by Emilio Bonifacio ended a 13-pitch third. 33 pitches overall for Gonzalez. Sandy Leon K'd looking. Gio Gonzalez was one pitch and out. Steve Lombardozzi K'd swinging and Josh Johnson was through a 12-pitch third at 36 pitches overall. Still 1-0 Nats.

' [CHOMP!] x 3: Three straight fly balls to Roger Bernadina in center [CHOMP!] [CHOMP!] [CHOMP!] had Gio Gonzalez through an eight-pitch, 1-2-3 top of the fourth. 4.0 scoreless on 41 pitches. Bryce Harper, Ryan Zimmerman and Adam LaRoche went down in order in a 12-pitch bottom of the inning by Josh Johnson. 12-in-a-row set down by the Marlins' right-hander. Greg Dobbs hit a broken-bat liner by a diving Adam LaRoche for a leadoff single in the fifth, but Austin Kearns erased the Marlins' runner with a grounder to second that started a 6-3 DP. Desmond fields and throws and Gio gets a swinging K from Gorkys Hernandez for 5 K's in 5.0 scoreless. 1-0 Nats. 49 pitches for Gio.

' M-I-C-K-E-..etc.: Michael Morse took a 1-0 curve from Marlins right-hander Josh Johnson to center where it bounced off the GEICO sign for double no.11 of 2012 and hits in 12-straight games for the Nats' hard-hitting outfielder. A 1-2 curve got Danny Espinosa chasing for the first out of the inning. Roger Bernadina popped one up to left and just inside the line where it dropped in for a bloop single. Sandy Leon K'd swinging for out no.2 and Johnson's 5th K and Johnson popped the opposing pitcher up to end the 5th. Still 1-0 Nats.

' Fish Strike: John Buck hit the first pitch of the sixth out to Danny Espinosa at short. One down. Josh Johnson lined a 94 mph full-count fastball to right, but Bryce Harper got to it quickly and fired it back in to hold the Marlins' starter to a single. Harper caught a fly to right from Emilio Bonifacio for out no.2, but Donovan Solano shot an opposite field single through second with two down and Jose Reyes singled to quickly and unexpectedly load the bases for Carlos Lee. El Caballo got hold of a first pitch fastball and drove in two runs with a line drive single to center. 2-1 Marlins. A line drive to left by Greg Dobbs made it 3-1 Miami. 20 pitches by Gio Gonzalez in the 6th. Five hits for the Fish. 3-1 Marlins after five and a half. Josh Johnson needed seven pitches to get three fly ball outs in a scoreless bottom of the sixth. 3-1 Fish.

' Johnson's Winning: John Buck hit a 2-0 two-seamer to center for his 10th double of 2012 with one down in the Marlins' seventh, but Gio Gonzalez got Josh Johnson swinging for out no.2 and K no. 8 and got Bonifacio looking with a 96 mph 2-2 four-seamer that was called strike three. 9 K's for Gio. A 14-pitch frame had the Nats' lefty at 83 pitches overall. Michael Morse hit a one-out grounder to short in the bottom of the seventh, and Jose Reyes fielded it before bouncing a throw to first that El Caballo couldn't handle. Runner on second with one down. Danny Espinosa K'd swinging for out no.2 of the inning and Roger Bernadina flew to left on a 1-0 fastball to end the inning. 3-1 Fish after seven.

' Reyes Is "Excitable": Donovan Solano took a 1-2 curve for a called strike three and K no.10 by Gio Gonzalez. Jose Reyes doubled for the 25th time this season on a blooper to right that fell in fair. Bryce Harper's throw to second was high or he might have thrown the Marlins' shortstop out. Reyes was running as Carlos Lee rolled out no.2 to short, and the Marlins' shortstop kept running as Danny Espinosa threw to first and scored ahead of a throw home by Adam LaRoche. 4-1 Fish after seven and a half. Sandy Leon K'd looking for Johnson's 7th K of the night. Chad Tracy grounded to second for out no.2 and Lombardozzi K'd swinging for K no.8. 4-1 Marlins after eight in Nats Park. 97 pitches by Johnson.

' Last Licks: Craig Stammen gave up a one-out walk in an eight-pitch at bat against Gorkys Hernandez, but retired John Buck for out no.2. Josh Johnson singled Hernandez around to third and an RBI hit by Emilio Bonifacio brought in the Marlins fifth run, 5-1. Donovan Solano walked with two down, but Jose Reyes flew out to end the top of the ninth. Josh Johnson came back out looking for a complete game. Bryce Harper singled to right to start the frame. Ryan Zimmerman flew to center for out no.1. Adam LaRoche K'd swinging at a two-strike bender for out no.2 and K no.9. Michael Morse battled for eight pitches and singled to right to bring Bryce Harper around and make it 5-2. Emilio Bonifacio injured his wrist on the play. Johnson left after 8.2 IP.
