The Washington Nationals learned when they'll play the first postseason game on Sunday, when it was announced that game one will take place at 3:07 pm EDT and they also learned which umpires will be working the first postseason series by a D.C.-based team since 1933.
The Washington Nationals learned this morning that they will play the first postseason game by a team from the nation's capital since 1933 on Sunday afternoon at 3:07 pm EDT in either St. Louis or Atlanta, depending on which team wins tonight's Wild Card one-off between the Cardinals and Braves at 5:00 pm EDT in Turner Field. Game two of the NLDS will take place on Monday in either Turner Field or Busch Stadium at 4:37 pm EDT. Still no start time announced for the first game in the nation's capital which will take place on Wednesay in Nationals Park. The Nats did learn, however, as the Washington Times' Amanda Comak wrote on Twitter, that they'll have Joe West's crew umpiring the Division Series wherever it's played:
The umpires for the #Nats NLDS:Paul Emmel, Marvin Hudson, Joe West (crew chief), Jim Joyce, Alfonso Marquez, Ed Hickox
' Amanda Comak (@acomak) October 5, 2012
A quick search through the FBb archives revealed that West was actually the umpire who tossed Davey Johnson in the manager's first ejection of the season in 2011... uh... and Marvin Hudson was the first umpire to toss the Nats' 69-year-old skipper this season, but that's all in the past. It's the postseason now. The Nationals still haven't announced the roster for the first round of the playoffs, but they do have to wait to see whether they're facing the Cards or Braves before they can decided what they're going to need. According to what Davey Johnson said during the last few press conferences of the regular season, the Nats planned to work out today, watch tonight's NL Wild Card game and then leave for the site of the NLDS opener tomorrow. More news sure to follow. Until there's something new it's links and lots of them, starting... RIGHT NOW!!!!!:
