The Washington Nationals and New York Yankees have played just six games against one another since 2005 when the Montreal Expos relocated to the nation's capital and became the Nats. Washington's 4-2 against New York in the two series the teams have played, one in D.C. back in 2006 and one in NY back in 2009. When the Yankees last played in the nation's capital back in '06, the Nationals were still playing in RFK Stadium. The Nats drew a combined 134,991 fans in that three-game set which saw them take two of three from the visiting Yanks on a ninth inning, series-winning, walk-off HR by Ryan Zimmerman off former-Yankees and current-Nationals' right-hander Chien-Ming Wang in the Sunday finale.
The Yankees are back in the nation's capital for the first time since 2006 tomorrow. The Nationals sent out a press release in advance of the series advising that since they're expecting sell-out crowds fans should plan ahead and allow for extra time on their way to the ballpark for each of this weekend's games with the visiting Yankees. They'll also be opening the Center Field Gate 2 1/2 before the start of each game and all other areas/gates open an hour and a 1/2 before each of the three games.
