Chad Dukes and Danny Rouhier from 106.7 the FAN in D.C. were in camp with the Washington Nationals in Viera, Florida this week and they interviewed a number of Nats on Thursday including 26-year-old right-hander Jordan Zimmermann, Director of Player Development Doug Harris, 28-year-old third baseman Ryan Zimmerman and 52-year-old GM and Executive VP of Baseball Ops Mike Rizzo. On Friday, 106.7 the FAN's Holden Kushner and Danny Rouhier talked to the Nats' top prospect, 22-year-old infielder Anthony Rendon. There was a bit of the awkwardness we've come to expect from Mr.'s Kushner and Rouhier in the Rendon interview with discussion of hugs and trips to the zoo, but the Nats' 2011 1st Round pick also offered a bit of insight into his second major league Spring Training. In five games, including last night's tie with the Mets, Rendon is 5 for 15 with two doubles and a home run so far this Spring. Some interesting stuff in each of the interviews. Some quotes and links to the interviews below:
Jordan Zimmermann on goals for 2013: "My main goal, personal goal, is 200 innings. I think that's a big stepping stone for starting pitchers and if I can get 200 innings that's what I want to do this year and I'm going to do everything I can to reach that."

Doug Harris on where top prospect Anthony Rendon will end up position-wise: "Defensively, I think time will tell on that. And part of that may be need based. He's a very gifted defender who has the ability to play in multiple positions. He's getting a ton of reps now at third base and doing some stuff footwork-wise at second base."
More Doug Harris on Anthony Rendon's skill set: "From the skill set, he has very gifted hands. He has very good feet. His feet really work well in small spaces. It's not always how fast a guy is, but how well his feet work in those small spaces. What his body control is like. And he's blessed with all those tools."
Doug Harris on 2011 1st Rounder Brian Goodwin: "Brian is a guy that can show you parts, average-to-above, of all five tools on any given day. He's a very good defender. He can throw. Obviously he's an above-average runner who can steal bases. He controls the strike zone really well, he's got a chance to hit and I think we're just starting to see glimpses of his power."
Doug Harris on 2012 1st Round pick Lucas Giolito: "He's doing really well. Came into camp in very good shape. He's a very physical young man and he's a puppy. Very talented young man. Above-average fastball -- well-above-average fastball-- well-above-average breaking ball. We've had a lot of success with our medical staff here with having guys coming back from the Tommy John. We feel very comfortable with it and he's in a very good place right now."
Doug Harris on Giolito's recovery timetable: "We've got some rough parameters and we are very individualized when it comes to guys coming back from Tommy John. We anticipate him getting some innings this summer at some point. But he's well on course at this point."

Ryan Zimmerman on Nationals' offseason moves: "Mike [Rizzo] has always been very smart and very 'baseball savvy' I guess is the best way to put it. He always has a plan. He knows what he's doing and this offseason, like you said, he kind of executed it perfectly. There's people out there like [Michael] Bourn and B.J [Upton] and guys like that that play center field and he went out and got one that was a lot cheaper and under team control. I'm excited to see Denard [Span] play and see what he brings to the table day in and day out and what I've seen so far, he's exactly what we needed."

Mike Rizzo on pitching depth in 2013: "Last year we were extremely fortunate that our five starters pitched healthily throughout the season and it's always important to have depth in your system, depth on your major league club. But we think that we go seven deep at least in the system and we think that we'll find a breakthrough guy here in Spring Training that's going to help us some time during the 2013 season. Be it Zach Duke being that sixth starter or Christian Garcia -- who we think is going to be fine -- during the season being that guy or maybe it's Nathan Karns or somebody of that ilk to come up, take the next step forward and really be a guy that helps the ballclub going down the stretch."

Anthony Rendon on what he wants out of big league camp: "I think I just want to be remembered. When my time is done here, I just want [them] to be like, 'Hey, remember when Rendon got that hit in that one game,' or, 'He made that play out there in the field that one day.' I just think that I want to be remembered so I can be stuck in everybody's head and maybe, you know, I'll be thought about down the road."
Anthony Rendon on feeling in camp with Nats: "Things are really flying around here. Everybody's working hard, and I mean, everybody is working hard from the rookies through even the veterans. You can tell and just feel that everybody wants this next year to come up quick."
